Hatch day

So, the two Wyandottes that hatched yesterday are in the brooder box, and one more is pipping in the incubator as I type. The older two have discovered water and food. The pebbles in the water are to help stop drowning, but they're also a big hit! Being shiny, the chicks pecked at them until they discovered what the water was all about and started drinking. :)

It's been day 21 since about 10pm last night, so this is the official hatch day. Since I kept the temperature a tiny bit on the low side, (more issues are caused from higher temps than lower ones, or so I read!) then we could expect the chicks to hatch later than usual. So, if not much happens today, I won't be too disappointed just yet.

I'll not bombard you with updates today though! Just one more of the chicks tonight when hopefully there is more to report. :)

Until then!

  1. So cute, I love hatching chicks. Hope you get a few more, the one in the picture looks to be a blue Wyandotte - they are so pretty. Look forward to seeing all the others.

I have a broody hen so I have ordered one more batch of eggs for the year - I just can't resist.

  2. Ha! Good eye! The egg says that one's a blue, and the other is a gold. The next one hatching is suppose to be a gold too! The breeder wrote them on the eggs. I honestly wouldn't know otherwise! ;)

I look forward to the day when one of my girls gets broody. :) Good luck with the eggs!
