Yesterdays Update

Mum and Michael kicked our butts into gear with the lounge room yesterday! We took out the bowed wall between the lounge and bedrooms, and put some posts there to make sure the wall above didn't decide to slack off. We also dug out some more floor. Digging out the floor is such hard work!

We found a little piece of local Stawell newspaper dated Wednesday January 10, 1945. The newspaper is called the Pleasant Creek Chronicle - established 1868. One section called Garden Suggestions mentions six most popular flowers for cutting; Roses, Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, and Carnations - the others are unknown due to the condition of the paper.

On the other side is an advertisement for Dr. Clark's School ointment for school sores. It cost 4/6 per jar.

Today we did other chores, but we'll be back digging out the floor soon! In the meantime we've been collecting all the decent bricks from the rubble, and doing more gardening, of course!

Until next time!

  1. I guess it has to get worse to get better. It will all be worth it when you are done.

  2. Looks like you've got a great start to make it really nice. Can't wait to see it when it's done. I personally would put the hay bales on the inside just to give the walls some texture.

  3. We probably would use straw on the walls if the place was bigger, but as it is these small Miners Cottages have quite small rooms. Straw bales take up an extra 35cm (13.7") minimum. Definitely next time. ;)
